So evidently Resolve tags files encoded by self in some way that ensures the Data Levels are preserved. Same thing when importing DNxHD.mov files encoded with ffmpeg versus DNxHD files created with Resolve. Whereas, Resolve respects the Data Level that is set when using the internal transcode function or rendering out to Cineform and re-importing. I have the orginal DVD w/orginal box and serial number. What I've found though is that when these VirtualDub-encoded, remuxed files are imported, Resolve always auto assigns them to Video levels and I have to go into Clip Attributes and manually change the Data Levels to Full in order to preserve the original luma range. Now Ii have to activate but cant the activation is not supported anymore. For some reason Resolve doesn't acknowledge these Cineform.avi files, although thankfully it does after remuxing (with ffmpeg) to mov format. CS2 + Acrobat 7 + Audition 3 (AND EARLIER) Activation Server is gone, so read below You MUST use the special version and serial number on the page, not your - 8016839. The only issue I've had with Cineform and Resolve is with Cineform.avi files encoded with the Cineform VFW codec as accessible in VirtualDub - which is what I used to do before I started using Resolve and how I have some material (from other systems) archived.
